5 Ways to Experience Casper, Wyoming

5 Ways to Experience Casper, Wyoming

When you think Casper, Wyoming no doubt visions of wide-open landscape, the blue ribbon North Platte River, and big bows dance in your head.  Casper has long been a fly fishing travel destination and for good reason. It’s definitely one of our favorite places to fish and we can’t wait to get back there again soon. The town has somehow retained that old west feeling and its streets are lined with history. Some of the best trout fishing in the nation aside, there are a lot of things to do in Caspe

2025 Fishing Participation Report: What the Numbers Say for Women and Fishing in 2026

Fishing Hit a Record in 2024. The Hard Part Starts Now. I read the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s 2025 Special Report on Fishing with one goal in mind: translate the numbers into what they mean for real outdoor lives. Not just anglers. All of us. This report tracks participation through 2024, and it tells a clear story. Fishing is big, still growing, and still acting like a gateway to time outside. It is not “solved.” Retention is the next fight. 57.9 million people went fishing

6 Tips to Catch More Trout

6 Tips to Catch More Trout

Be Stealthy We’ve all seen the images of anglers belly crawling to sneak up to the river bank. We are not recommending that you do this when you approach every trout fishing situation, but there are a few simple things you can do to spook fewer trout when getting to the river.   Watch your shadow. Fish are always looking up.  Death from above is a real danger for trout. Birds and small mammals will routinely come from above and grab a lazy trout. For this reason, when approaching a stream it

6 New Products from ICAST 2019 We Can’t Live Without

ICAST, the world's largest sportfishing trade show, is always such a fun event. Not only do you get to see the latest and greatest in all of fishing, you get to hang out with your friends and have a chance to meet some of the legends you usually only get to see on TV. This year the show was a little different than in years past. The International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) show, which had been housed inside of ICAST for a number of years, decided to part ways this year. As the DUN staff headed to

Tips to Improve Your Warm Water Lake Fishing

Tips to Improve Your Warm Water Lake Fishing

The natural home of a fly rod is the river setting, but fly rods should not be limited to river fishing.  They are also great tools for warm water species in lakes. When you start targeting lakes, you open up a whole new set of fishing opportunities and challenges for catching fish. There are literally lakes everywhere, and in states where poor access laws can be an issue, lakes provide an excellent way to get out and fish while not having to worry about trespassing.  Certainly, we would never

4 Flies Every Trout Angler Should Know How to Tie

There are a lot of great flies in the bins of your local fly shop. These days, in fact, there are so many flies that it’s difficult to choose the right one. In addition, they can easily be tied in the local dive motel near your favorite stream or with your fly tying friends at the shop. We have attached some of our favorite videos from across the web for you to tie them yourselves and l

In order to make these, it is necessary for you to have a set of sharp, thin and lightly beaten files, a seamy iron clamp, and a pair of long and small pincers, a somewhat thick and hard knife, an anvil, and a small hammer.”  - Dame Juliana Berners When Dame Juliana Berners penned those words in A Treatyse of Fysshynge With an Angle in the late 15th century, the Angle she ref

The Life and Times of Diane Pallot

Where do you call home? Right here in Mims, Florida. No restaurants, no main street, no quaint shopping stores. Boring beyond belief however no traffic, no over population, every pit bull dog is friendly, and so are their owners. How did you get into fly fishing? I think I sort of morphed into it. Flip never forced the idea nor did he pressure me. After fishing with him for a few years with spin tackle, I decided one afternoon to ask him for a casting lesson. He was more than accommodating and
