Aboutdunoutdoors

DUN Outdoors is a modern outdoor media platform built around one simple truth: women do everything outside—and we want a home for all of it. If it’s done outdoors, it’s DUN Outdoors. You’ll find stories, skills, gear, and real-life inspiration for all of your outdoor adventures. Think stories that move across fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, outdoor lifestyle, kids in the outdoors, gardening, travel, and the everyday adventures that happen beyond the door. We’re here for the woman who wants to learn something new, the woman who already knows her way around, and anyone who respects the outdoors and wants to be part of a thoughtful, welcoming community.

DUN began in September 2013 as DUN Magazine, founded by Editor-in-Chief Jen Ripple with a clear purpose: create an authentic fly fishing magazine that reflected women’s voices, experiences, and expertise on the water. That fly fishing foundation still matters—deeply. Fly fishing is part of our DNA, and it always will be. As we grow into DUN Outdoors, we’re not leaving that legacy behind; we’re expanding it. Our fly anglers will still feel at home here, with strong fly fishing content, destination features, conservation conversations, and the kind of storytelling that made DUN a trusted name in women’s fly fishing media in the first place.

Today, DUN Outdoors reflects the full spectrum of how women live outside. Some of us fish. Some of us hunt. Some of us camp with kids and dogs and a cooler that’s seen better days. Some of us hike for solitude, garden for beauty and purpose, or build a life that revolves around the seasons. DUN Outdoors exists to connect those threads—because an outdoor life rarely fits in a single category. Our editorial lens is rooted in capability, curiosity, respect for the land and water, and the belief that the outdoors can be both rugged and restorative.

Most of our content is created by women and shaped with women in mind—because representation matters, and women’s perspectives have too often been treated as a niche. But DUN Outdoors isn’t “for women only.” We welcome men who value good storytelling, practical information, and a healthy outdoor culture—partners, dads, mentors, friends, and fellow adventurers. The point isn’t to shut anyone out; it’s to make sure women are fully included. If you believe the outdoors is better when more people feel confident and invited into it, you’re in the right place.

What you’ll find here is a mix of skills and stories: beginner-friendly how-tos, deeper dives for experienced anglers and hunters, gear reviews you can trust, outdoor lifestyle features, and honest takes on the wins and learning curves that come with doing hard things outside. Whether you’re searching for fly fishing tips, planning a camping trip with kids, learning to hunt ethically, choosing hiking gear, or building a garden that feeds your table and your soul, DUN Outdoors is built to help you do it—with joy, competence, and a sense of belonging.

At its heart, DUN Outdoors is about empowerment without posturing. We’re not chasing perfection—we’re chasing progress, connection, and a real life that feels richer because it’s lived outside. The outdoors has room for your version of adventure, whether that looks like dawn patrol on a river, a first deer season, a backyard campout, or a garden bed you built with your own hands. Welcome to DUN Outdoors—rooted in fly fishing, grown into everything else, and ready to meet you wherever you are on your outdoor journey.
