Charity Rutter

received her BA in Graphic Design from the University of Central Oklahoma and immediately moved to East Tennessee to be near the Smoky Mountains. An ardent conservationist, Charity participates in native brook trout stream restoration projects and has been a full time guide since 2002. She was named one of the top female guides in the country by Field and Stream Magazine in 2015. She and her husband Ian own and operate R&R Fly Fishing in Townsend,TN and together have collaborated on five books about fly fishing. Charity has two children who also accompany her on volunteer projects and adventures.

I had just picked up the kids from school on Monday afternoon, November 28th when my husband Ian called and asked “Have you heard any news this afternoon? The winds are carrying the embers from the Chimneys fire and spreading across the park.” The fire had started five days earlier near the summit of the Chimneys, an iconic pair of rocky peaks in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
